Before Your Pest Control Treatment

Thanks for using Your Local Termite and Pest Control to manage your pest problem.

Please take a few moments to read this Pre-Treatment Pest Control Advice Notice before your Pest Control Treatment.

Pre-Treatment Pest Control Advice Notice

This information provides an outline of the chemicals being used to control the pests requested and answer your questions about its safe use. All chemicals used are APVMA approved for use in pest control and applied as per the manufacturers label.

Preparations before we arrive:

General housekeeping can be helpful such as:

  • Picking up any items off the floor that you would not like us to spray e.g. clothes, kids toys
  • Mop and Vacuum – the technician may ask you not to mop around the skirting boards for a few
days after the treatment. This prevents the treatment being washed away.
  • Mowing and picking up any dog droppings can also help the technicians when working in your backyard.
  • Emptying the kitchen cupboards is not required as we use modern gels placed away from the contents of the cupboards.
  • Remove washing from clothes lines.
  • IMPORTANT: Cover pet fish, bird or reptile tanks/cages/enclosures.

Advanced cockroach gels are used in kitchen and bathroom cupboards:
New development allows us to place gels in cupboards without cupboards being emptied. Any cockroaches within the localised areas of the gels will eat the gels and die.

We use the highest-grade water-based chemicals to spray inside and out:
Being water based there are no nasty smells or vapour given off. We will spray all accessible skirting areas and lower wall areas, we do not spray painted walls or cornice areas due to staining and run lines. A damp cloth or vaccum is recommended to remove spiders in these areas. We also spray outside around doors, windows, and accessible eaves up to 3m in height. Some over spray will usually occur on windows this is the spiders favourite hiding place.

After your general pest spray/treatment:

Please DO NOT ENTER PREMISES unless you have read our Post-Treatment Pest Advice provided electronically or in person.

Our recommendations:

  • Avoid mopping or vacuuming carpets within 15 cm of floor edges for approximately 2 weeks.
  • Avoid cleaning or painting walls for 4 weeks as this could remove or cover our treatment.
  • Externally, avoid hosing and pressure cleaning treated areas for as long as practically possible.

 FAQs

Do we have to leave the house while you spray?

Only if you have health problems, suffer from asthma, sensitive to smells or have allergies.

If you do have these health issues please make our team aware prior to our arrival so we can provide you with the best safety and precaution advice.

Please keep children away from wet chemical until it has dried. E.g. skirting boards, external walls, garden areas where product has been sprayed.

How long until the chemical spray dries?

This can take between 30 mins to several hours depending on the weather conditions ie: Humidity and Temperature.

How long does the treatment take?

Generally, a pest spray for Cockroaches, Ants and Spiders will take 45 to 90 minutes, depending on the size of the house/commercial property. Call our team to confirm your specialised treatment time duration.

Is the general pest treatment safe for my pet/s?

We ask that cats and dogs be kept clear of treatment areas to avoid them ingesting or coming in direct contact with the chemicals while it’s wet.

Pet fish, bird or reptile tanks/cages/enclosures must be covered while treatment is in progress.

Do you spray in kitchens and around food?

Yes we place products in safe areas around your kitchen and laundries that have low toxicity to humans.

We recommend sealing and storing food and pet in sealed containers not only to prevent chemicals on food but to also prevent pests.

Do you spray inside the house or just outside?
  • General Cockroaches, Ants and Spider treatments – Inside, Outside, Roof Void.
  • German Cockroaches – Inside only focusing on problem/infestation areas.
  • Rats/Mice – No spray is necessary. Rodent bait is placed in roof void or in lockable tamper proof stations in problem areas inside our outside your home.
  • External Ant Treatment – Outside Only.
  • Flea Treatment – Inside and where pets have been sleeping.
  • Please enquire our procedure if you have booked another specialised treatment.
Does everything need to be washed after your professional pest treatment?

As the pest control chemicals, we use are of low toxicity to humans everything does not need to be washed after a pest treatment. In fact by washing away our chemicals it may make the treatment ineffective and potentially void your warranty.

What happens if it rains on the day of the treatment? Will it still work?

Services may still be able to continue in wet weather. If it is raining during the time of service, the treatment may be postponed. If rain has passed the service can still go ahead. We carry out a Risk Analysis before the treatment and if we assess it as either too windy or that rain can effect the treatment then we will then reschedule for a more suitable weather conditions to finish the treatment.

Will I see any pests again?

Yes, you may see pests come out. The repellent used for spraying will flush out the pests from cracks and crevices. Insect numbers may appear to increase for up to 4 weeks following a treatment: As the insects are affected by the treatment, they move slower and are therefore more noticeable. The pesticide can take up to 2 weeks to flush out and kill the pests. Once the pests have come into contact with the chemical, the pest need time to ingest it before dying.

Throughout the warranty period you may see a couple of pests (cockroaches, ants, spiders, silverfish) come inside. Our warranties only cover a repeat infestation not a small number of insects.

Do you remove dead rats/mice?

No, sorry this is not part of our rodent treatment. We recommend getting maintenance or disposing of the carcass yourself. Remember to wear Personal Protective Clothing such as gloves and a mask.

What if mice/rats die in the roof?

There is a possibility, mice and rats can die in the roof cavity. If they die in the wall or roof cavity there will be a strong smell that will subside over the week.

There is not much that can be done to retrieve the carcass if access is limited in the wall or roof void without damaging the wall linings. Therefore we can offer an Odour-Bag service to help with the scent over the first week. Please call our team for a quote on this service.

Are ants always controlled with general pest spray?

A bad infestation of ants may require a non-repellent chemical treatment – one which allows a slow release to enable transfer to other ants to kill off the colony. We can advise the best course of action once we
determine the extent of the infestation.

If you are having an ongoing External Ant issue we recommend getting an external ant treatment as this focuses on spraying all external garden, grass and nests outside your home. Please call our team for a quote.

Fire Ants are an additional service charge and it is a specialised treatment.  Call us for a quote or Call 13 25 23 to report directly to Biosecurity.

How long should I leave spider webs after treatment?

We recommend leaving spider webs up for 10 days after spraying. When the spiders eat the web, recycling and re-spinning, they are then killed.

Does pest control kill all spiders?

Unfortunately, not all spiders will die after our  pest control treatment. For instance, Huntsman spiders are roaming spider and are not a web dwelling spider, therefore there is not a current residual product for them on the market.

Does the general pest treatment cover termites?

General Pest Treatments have NO effect on Termites. Termites are treated with entirely different chemicals. A specialised investigation conducted by a licensed and experienced Termite Inspector (Termite Inspection to AS3660-2) is required for this purpose to Australian Standards. We can provide this at an additional charge. Please call our team for a quote.

Limitations of the treatment

The effectiveness of pest control treatments is limited by site, structural, and environmental conditions which are
beyond the control of the pest controller. Such conditions include, but are not limited to, inaccessible structural
cavities, leaking roofs, faulty grade levels, inadequate clearance, earth to wood contact, structure- vegetation contact,
cellulose debris, insufficient ventilation, faulty gutters or down-spouts, and other conditions conducive to reinfestation
or recurring infestation. Unless the pest controller has specifically included the repair or correction of such
condition(s), the Customer accepts sole responsibility for such repair, correction, or mitigation, and holds the pest
controller harmless from any liability for same, including any responsibility for re-treatment. The pest controller is not
responsible for insect or rodent damage to products or contents at the premises. This Agreement does not provide for
control of pests not specified. If, in the pest controller’s opinion, a service requested is unsafe for the Technician
and/or the Customer, or is impractical or unnecessary, the pest controller reserves the right to refuse requested
service without incurring any liability.
The Customer agrees to hold the pest controller harmless from any and all liability for damage not caused by the pest
controller’s negligence, and from any and all liability for structural damage regardless of cause. The pest controller
disclaims any liability for special, incidental or consequential damages. The warranties stated in this Agreement are
given in lieu of any other warranty, expressed or implied, including any warranty of merchantability or fitness for a
particular purpose. The pest controller will incur no liability should it be prevented from fulfilling its responsibilities per
this Agreement by reasons of an act of God, fire, flood, storms, explosions, acts of war, whether declared or
undeclared, seizure, riots, civil commotion, strikes, or other labor disputes, shortages of fuel and/or materials,
quarantine restrictions, or any other circumstances or causes beyond the control of the pest controller. Should
structural changes or additions be made to the job-site which would add to or delete from the area treated at each
service, the periodic service charge will be reviewed and adjusted accordingly.
